Tazama's Safari Packing List

As you start preparing for your trip, we’d love to offer you some advice on what to pack. Tanzania is located on the equator which means we have relatively temperate weather year round. Casual, comfortable clothing is suitable throughout the year.
Clothing:
- Lightweight, Long-Sleeved Shirts: Protect against the sun and insects.
- T-Shirts: Comfortable for warmer days.
- Convertible Pants/Shorts or variety shorts and pants
- Comfortable Walking Shoes: Durable, closed-toe shoes for game drives and walks in the bush.
- Sandals for wearing by the pool or if you’re continuing on to Zanzibar
- Hat with Brim: Offers shade and protection.
- Sunglasses: UV protection for your eyes.
- Scarf or buff wrap - protect your face from dust, keep hair back or wrap around yourself on cool evening
Outerwear:
- Light Jacket or Fleece: Cooler evenings and early mornings.
- Rain Jacket or Poncho: Be prepared for unexpected rain.
Safari Gear:
- Binoculars: Enhance wildlife viewing. Your vehicle will be stocked with binocular to share but if you’d prefer to bring your own pair you may
- Camera and Extra Batteries: Capture the magic of the safari. Your vehicle will have an electric charging station to recharge batteries or your phone on game drives.
- Headlamp/Flashlight: Useful for night drives and walking around camp at night.
- Power Bank: Keep your devices charged at night.
Personal Items:
- Sunscreen: High SPF for sun protection - remember we are on the equator!
- Insect Repellent
- Personal Medications
- First Aid Kit containing cold medicine, pain killers, malaria pills, and antidiarrheal
- Toiletries
- Wet Wipes/Hand Sanitizer - great for wiping the dust away
Miscellaneous:
- Daypack: For daily essentials during excursions.
- Travel Adapters: For charging devices. We use 220 volt three prong ports in Tanzania.
- Snacks: Trail mix, energy bars, etc.
- Notebook and Pen: Journal your safari memories.
- A soft sided duffel bag

Important Documents:
- Passport and Visa: Check expiration dates - you must have at least 6 months left on the expiry date to enter Tanzania.
- Vaccination Certificates: Especially for yellow fever.
- Travel Insurance: Comprehensive coverage.
- Emergency Contacts: Keep a list handy.
Clothing for Lodge/Camp:
- Comfortable Loungewear: For relaxing at accommodations.
- Swimwear: If your lodge/camp has a pool.
Optional:
- Guidebook: Learn more about wildlife and culture.
- Neck Gaiter or Scarf: Protect against dust.
- Travel Pillow: For added comfort during long drives.
Remember, pack light and prioritize comfort. Laundry services are often available at lodges and camps, reducing the need for excessive clothing. Tailor this list based on the specifics of your safari and personal preferences. Safe travels!
Please note: brighter colors like blue or red are proven to attract insects. We recommend you dress in Khaki, brown, white, green and beige colors. These colors also show dirt less obviously and absorb less heat.
Even though we are on the equator, it can be cold at night; therefore it is very important to have some warm layers available to you for evenings.
All domestic flights have a strict luggage weight of 15 kgs for checked luggage. Any weight of baggage in excess will be charged at the discretion of the airline.
